My time at Bright: Frankie Linsley

Jardine Miles

Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of having an honorary member of the Bright Team - Frankie, a recent event management diploma graduate who joined us for work experience.

After two busy weeks, we sat down with Frankie to catch up about what her experience has been like and what she’s learnt.

Frankie Bright Work Experience

Why did you apply for work experience at Bright?

While studying for my Event Management diploma, I wanted to find work experience where I could learn by doing. Bright's approach appealed to me because they welcomed me into the team and gave me a genuine role to play, trusting me with real responsibilities rather than only observing. It was a great environment to build on confidence, develop practical skills, and experience what it really takes to deliver a live event.

What kind of projects do you like working on?

At this stage, I’m really open to exploring a different range of events and seeing where my strengths and interests develop. I’ve loved working on corporate events so far, but I’m also excited to explore different sectors as I continue to develop my skills. I love that with events, no two days are the same - every project brings different people, new environments, and fresh opportunities to learn. I really enjoy the collaborative side of the industry and being part of creating experiences that bring people together.

"I remember Alistair saying that a good events manager is already thinking about the pack-down before the event has even finished...That simple piece of advice gave me a great perspective on what makes an event run successfully."

What is the most important thing you learned at Bright?

I remember Alistair saying that a good events manager is already thinking about the pack-down before the event has even finished. It stuck with me as it really showed that successful events aren’t only about what guests see - they’re about planning ahead and staying ahead of the next task. That simple piece of advice gave me a great perspective on what makes an event run successfully.

Were there any particular highlights?

There were many! I enjoyed seeing both sides of event delivery. During the lead-up, I loved being in the office and seeing how much planning, preparation, and coordination goes into making an event successful. Sitting in on the Monday catch-up meeting was interesting, as it showed me the importance of alignment, communication, and making sure everyone is working towards the same goal. During the events themselves, I really enjoyed the people aspect - meeting new people, interacting with guests, and being part of creating a memorable experience. As a natural chatterbox, the social side of the industry is especially rewarding. I also have to mention the team at Bright. Everyone was so welcoming, supportive and always happy to share their knowledge, which made it such a positive environment to learn in.

What's next for you?

I’ve recently completed my Level 4 diploma in Event Management, so I’m excited to keep building on everything I’ve learnt. I’m looking for opportunities to get involved in a variety of different events, continuing to learn from different experiences, and securing a role where I can keep developing my skills. I’m so excited to explore different areas of the industry, meet new people, and discover where my passion fits best while developing my career along the way.
